Assessments for 2020 Lakewood Travel Fastpitch

Open to players interested in developing fastpitch skills and playing games at a level above the Lakewood Recreation Program. Teams play against neighboring communities through the Emerald Necklace League from late April through Mid July. Practices begin indoors during the winter and early spring prior to the season.

Emerald Necklace is a community based organization established for the purpose of teaching and developing fastpitch softball skills, experience and enjoyment of the game. Player development is directed toward high school participation and beyond. League-specific rules and National Federation of High School Athletic fastpitch softball rules (approved by the Ohio High School Athletic Association) are applied to league play in this association.

Participation is currently limited to teams in Cuyahoga County. Teams are organized within age-specific divisions: 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under, 18 & under Junior Varsity and 18 & under Varsity. Age requirements are determined by a player's age as of January 1 of each playing season.

The playing season begins in mid-May for younger players in divisions 10 & under and 12 & under. Older players begin their playing schedules at the completion of the school season has concluded - this includes 14 & under and 18 & under teams. All league play and league tournaments are completed by July 31.

Every effort will be made to place all interested participants on teams. Upon placement on a team, parents will register their player and pay fees to the Lakewood Recreation Dept and supply a copy of birth certificate and current physical.

Tryouts will be conducted by the Lakewood High Fastpitch Coaching Staff and are for players interested in playing in the 2020 season for teams 8U through 14U. Cut off birthday date for all age groups is January 1st 2020. Example: your player must be 10 or younger as of January 1st 2020 to tryout for the 10U teams.

Players will run through the following stations for try outs:

• Ground Balls and Throws
• Fly Balls and Throws
• Pitching
• Catching
• Hitting

All tryout sessions are held at the Lakewood Fastpitch Field. Arrive 30 minutes before your time.

Age is determined by the age of the player on January 1st 2020 (ie. if the player is 12 years old on January 1st, 2020 but turns 13 on January 2nd then the player is still 12U for the 2019 season).
